Happy New Year!
It's a new year, and I'll be back at Guildhall next week to continue my studies. The festive season has been very restful, but also very exciting. Not only did I get the chance to perform for the first time at the Royal Albert Hall with the Philharmonia Chorus to 5000 people, but I also have some wonderful news - I'm going to have a baby! Little Lennard won't be due until 1st July so I will be able to finish my course at the Guildhall and get as much performing in as possible before I take a break for a few months to get used to motherhood!
Unfortunately, I will no longer be performing in 'A Soldier and a Maker' by Iain Burnside, but I plan to do several recitals in the next few months and will put the details up as soon as they are confirmed.

Busy, busy, busy!
Things are well and truly underway at the Guildhall this year! After auditions in the first week of term, I gained a place in the Chorus for the Opera Course's production of Nicolai's ' Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor' . Not only does this mean being involved in a fantastic production, but also means I will get the opportunity to perform in scenes in March in the Studio Theatre. I can't wait!
Other performances before Christmas include singing some beautiful Fauré in a lecture recital co-ordinated and presented by Graham Johnson as he looks at a variety of song cycles, and performing once again with the wonderful Johnny Parry in Oxford.
Next year is already beginning to look rather involved as I will be performing in a project created by Iain Burnside, ' A Soldier and a Maker ', based on the interesting life and death of Ivor Gurney. The production received rave reviews last year, and due to a slightly altered cast will be undergoing a few changes and should be even better when we perform it in at the Barbican in April.
Outside of Guildhall, I have begun rehearsing with the Philharmonia Chorus for our performance at the Royal Festival Hall this Friday of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. I will also be performing Dvorak's Te Deum , and some traditional Christmas carols with them and the choir of King's College, Cambridge at the Royal Albert Hall in December.
So all things considered, things are pretty busy yet also very exciting at the moment!

Walking, Passion, and the start of a new year
So, my husband and I attempted the 78-mile walk, and very bravely managed 40 miles in the first day (14 hours of solid walking), but suffered the consequences with swollen knees and feet, and a great deal of pain! We forced another 15 miles but then had to stop. We were both disappointed not to have completed the entire walk, but we hope to finish it (or maybe even have another go) in the near future.
A very big thank you to EVERYONE who sponsored us, your kind donations will help enormously towards my tuition fees.
In the past 2 weeks, I have been involved in rehearsals and the first performances of Bach's St Matthew Passion, as directed by Jonathan Miller with the English translation by Paul Goodwin at the National Theatre. It has been an incredible experience so far. Jonathan and Paul are both tremendously inspirational in their passionate approaches, and when combined with Bach's beautiful music, makes for a pretty powerful production.
I've now started back at the Guildhall for the second year of my Masters. I'm looking forward to new challenges and the opportunity to improve my technique and performance experience, while also working with new people.
